Special Payor Instructions

An easy way to make sure that you don't forget to check whether or not a referral is required for any insurance is to create a display note for the payor which needs the message. Start out by going to Settings > People & Places > Payors, and select the payor. Press the Notes button on the right-hand side of the screen:


Add a note, choosing Display Note for the Type. Select an appropriate message, such as, "Insurance Xxx requires a referral." Save the note. Once this is done, every time a patient with this payor is accessed, this display note will appear:


The most helpful aspect of doing this is seen at the Front Desk. Once this note is entered, special knowledge about payors is no longer needed when entering the patient information. As soon as the payor has been added to the paystream of a patient, when that patient is accessed, the message will display. In the long run, following these steps can save you a lot of time.
