No Problems!

One of our clients had an idea that was just too good not to share. Therefore, we improved the functionality of a couple of AuroraEHR tasks involved with documenting a patient's past medical history and current problem list.

Before, practices interviewed patients (or had them fill out a form) and recorded the medical history. Then, a separate task was opened and the current problems were entered. In many cases, such as hypertension or diabetes, the health problems would be listed on both. So why not simplify the process and let Rexpert complete both screens at once where possible?

Begin by changing your practice's EHR settings (found in Settings>People and Places>Practice>QM / EHR Settings tab). Underneath the EHR Settings label, check Auto Fill Problems from ROS.  Selecting this option means that certain items in the patient's medical history will automatically create entries in the patient's Problem List.

Now that your practice is set up for auto-filling problems, it's time to complete the Past Medical History task. Note that while we refer to this task as Past Medical History, your practice may call the task something else, like ROS (Review of Systems), Prior Medical Problems, Medical History etc., depending on how your practice's task list has been set up. In the task, note that some of the medical conditions have an asterisk in front of them. These medical conditions will save to the current problem list, should they be selected.

Open up the Problem List task. The items checked in Past Medical History are included in the problem list, complete with SNOMED Codes, and you didn't even have to type them in or look up the codes!

You do want to make sure the Past Medical History task appears on the task list before the Problem List task, in the interest of keeping the workflow moving smoothly down the list. Should that not be the case, contact Client Services and we will fix that for you.

If there are other conditions on the screen which can be reliably translated to a single SNOMED code, let us know the condition and the code, and we'll happily expand this functionality.
